Springfield Mo. Governance and Batteries

The online forum covered two significant topics - the Springfield, Mo. utility governance model and a battery storage project planned for Independence.

Springfield

Springfield mayor Ken McClure and Kristin Carter, chair of the Board of Public Utilities discussed their community's approach during a March 13th IndyEnergy forum held online. Gary Gibson, president and CEO of City Utilities, also participated.

The discussion included the several topics including strategic planning, rates, public participation and advanced metering.

Battery Project

Eric Stoutenburg, Director of Energy Storage, for energy developer Eolian Energy shared details about a 50MW private battery storage project planned for Independence

The project would be located just north of the former Blue Valley Power Plant on private land. That location allows the battery storage to connect to the electrical grid.

Stoutenburg discussed how battery storage fits into managing the electrical grids and provide details about the Independence project.
