Automatic Meters / Community Solar

Indy Energy's seventh community forum will provide information about automatic meter readers or sometimes referred to as Advanced Metering Infrastructure.

The idea is to install new utility meters that can be monitored and managed using technology eliminating the need for in-person meter readers. IPL is considering whether to proceed with a plan to install automatic meters for its 53,000 utility customers.

Andrew Boatright, Deputy Director, Independence Power & Light, will provide information on advance meters system. He has prior experience with an Advance Metering Initiative in Westerville, OH.

The forum will be held Sat., June 25th at the North Independence Public Library. Download a flyer.

The forum will also include an update on the IPL community solar project which is being constructed by the Lee's Summit-based MC Power on land within the city of Independence.

Community solar gives customers the opportunity to support solar energy without an expensive installation of solar panels on their property.

Customers pay for solar energy which is generated elsewhere - a large solar farm in Independence - and then put on the transmission grid.
