City Considers Options for Missouri City

The City Council wants to get proposals on what to do with the no longer operating city-owned Missouri City power plant.

The Council at is meeting Monday approvedissuing formal Request for Proposals (RFP) to see what ideas outside parties might have for the power plant.

Last summer with City Council received an extensive report on options for the coal-burning plant. The final report recommended decommissioning the Independence Power & Light Missouri City power plant for approximately $1 million - considerably lower than the option of dismantling the city-owned power plant at $17 million.

The Missouri City plant is one of the oldest in the Midwest and has not produced any electricity for several years and then only during summer peak demand months.

The City Council in June heard a presentation from Environmental Operations for an "As Is" Purchase of the Missouri City Plant.
